Congratulations to Mike Mosgaard for achieving his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt Wednesday night at Gracie Barra Evolution. Mike has been training with Professor Ryan for well over a decade. His original focus was on Kickboxing/Tae Kwon Do where he earned his Black Belt. Now Mike has set his sights on the amazing art of BJJ.

James in Afghanistan: Evolution’s very own James Tudtud is currently in Afghanistan doing computer consulting work. James has found some fellow MMA & Jiu-Jitsu lovers to continue his training while overseas. “We miss having you in class, James. Be safe and keep in touch.”

Professor Ryan is in Nashville this weekend for NAGA.

The Little Ninjas (3-5 years) had another fun week. Yesterday’s class started with balance drills and moved on to focus mitt drills. The focus mitt drills had them throwing a jab, cross, bob & weave, clinch, double knee strike combination. The class finished with the Little Ninjas using their focused strikes to pop bubbles all around them.

Professor Ryan is in Paris, France this week for NAGA Paris.
“I know…it’s a tough job having to travel to places like France.”
“Tomorrow morning we have a Referee certification course with Peter, the Head Referee for the ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club).” I have been a Referee for many ADCC events, but it will be really nice to refresh the details with the most knowledgeable man on the subject.”
This month’s Ninja night was another fun filled event for the children of Evolution Martial Arts. The night began with a Halloween costume party at the school. The kids and their friends all came dressed up in their diverse and unique Halloween costumes. Pizza, drinks, music and snacks kept the entertainment exciting. The kids then changed into comfortable attire to begin learning how to use foam Nunchucks. Our special guest, Instructor Rob, came into the school to teach our “Ninjas” the basics of the Nunchucks. Movies and games rounded out the evening with more and more smiling children. Stay tuned to find out what November’s Ninja night will have planned.
Matt Lindner made his MMA debut on Monday October 3rd at Defiant 7 in Orlando. Matt opened the first round with a strikes setting up a big double leg takedown. Matt applied a deep arm triangle and a round finishing armbar attempt from the mount. His opponent was able to escape Matt’s relentless attacks. However, throughout the round, Matt was able to viciously ground and pound his opponents body taking away his wind.
The second round opened with the opponent jumping right in with a flying knee attempt. Matt stuffed the knee and countered with another big takedown. Again body punches wore down his opponent with a mount triangle attempt. The opponent was again able to escape, but Matt quickly continued with a fight ending arm triangle choke midway through the second round.
Matt will again fight in the cage to represent Gracie Barra Evolution (in Tampa this time) on December 3rd.
Congratulations to Matt for all his hard work and dedication on this and his future victories!
9/3/11 - Karate Kid Campout on Saturday September 3, from 8pm - 8am. This exciting event has the kids and their friends playing games, pillow fighting, watching movies, eating pizza and having fun all night long. Just another reason why Evolution Martial Arts is Tampa’s Premier MMA school for kids!
